Period Townhouse, Arundel, Ground Floor

This handsome Grade II listed Georgian Townhouse in Arundel, West Sussex, dating from 1760s has been fully and sensitively renovated to create a restful home.

To enhance the property’s character and retain architectural integrity, original features - where they still existed – have been carefully restored, with later additions stripped back and replaced with classic features typical of the period.

The traditional-style kitchen perfectly combines the character of its period with modern functionality.  This tricky space required well-considered design and careful planning, particularly the bespoke joinery, which has been hand-built and hand painted in classic Shaker style.

An unobtrusive banquette, built into a corner, maximises seating, ensuring plenty of room for socialising.  Comfortable cushions subtly echo the texture and design of the nearby recessed window blind.

Standout features, such as the original cast iron stove and copper boiler for hot water, create interesting focal points, whilst complementary ironmongery and a selection of traditional cooking utensils complete the overall look.

Dispensing with the dividing wall between the dining and kitchen areas improved natural daylight and flow, providing a seamless transition between the two rooms.

The subtle contrast between muted greens, soft copper and brick tones provides a harmonious blend of colour that flows naturally throughout, seamlessly connecting the adjoining spaces.
